Pet Chickens – how to keep your hens Year Round
Keeping pet chickens has become common these days, and having fresh eggs is a definite plus. Domestic fowl are unique in the animal world because of their ability to pay for their room and board in a cool, healthy eggs.
There are some environmental factors that can cause chickens to temporarily stop laying eggs. If you are aware of the causes they are easily corrected.
Psychological stress
One thing that will cause the hens to animals not lay eggs is stress. Psychological stress can be caused a troublemaker in the house, or a sense of danger from predators. If you have a bully in the house you may have to separate it from the other chickens. This happens most often when a new chicken is introduced to a herd established.
If several hens lay more suddenly, look for signs that predator is coming around at night and scare them. If so, you may need to invest in some type of deterrent. Fox pee is easily available in stores from the farm, but you must keep applying it on a regular basis. Another option is to buy Battery driven "blinders" that simulate the eyes of a fox or coyote predation. These blinking eyes are very good to keep skunks, raccoons and other nocturnal animals outside a sector.
Physical Stress
Physical stress can cause hens to stop laying eggs too. This happens if they get sick, or do not receive the necessary nutrients. Look for signs of diarrhea, lethargy, and ensure they receive enough food and calcium. A chicken who is the victim may not have the opportunity to eat enough.
Supplement their diet with normal chicken corn bread, wheat bread, green vegetables, ground cuttlebone (for calcium), and dandelions.
All birds are vermifuge. Worms not untreated can kill your herd. You can buy worming appropriate to your local farm store. It will give instructions on how to administer it.
Cold Weather
If it is really cold outside, it is common for egg production to decrease significantly. Watering Chicken diet cayenne powder will increase the internal temperature and egg production will increase. Just a spoon coffee per pound of food is usually sufficient.
Chickens aging
Do not expect your pet chickens to lay eggs throughout their adult life. The normal life expectancy for a healthy chicken is 8-10 years. Laying ceases long before that. The ability of laying usually slows about 3 years, and stops at 4-5 years. Of course there are always exceptions, but do not think your 7-year chicken is sick just because it is not lay eggs.

I would be less need to be a Rooster & hens have a couple eggs in poultry?
I heard that it would be too "hard" on a Laying hens to get 2-3 to share his "time". Any other tips on starting a chicken little appreciated … websites, etc.
